How do I get to Bansko?
The best way is to fly to Sofia and then by road from Sofia to Bansko. It takes between two and two and a half hours. See information on Car Hire or transfers by mini cabs.
You can fly to Sofia from most of the main UK airports, check our which airlines fly to Sofia and which terminal they use here. The main services are from Heathrow (BA daily), from Gatwick (EasyJet daily) or Luton (Wizz Air daily)
Driving in BULGARIA?
Hiring a car and driving in Bulgaria should present no problems..

Most of the main highways in Bulgaria are now up to European standards and most signage off the main highways are subtitled using the Roman alphabet.
Sofia Airport to Bansko
Whether you arrive at Terminal One (Easy Jet and Whizz Air amongst others) or Terminal Two (British Airways) you will not have any trouble finding your way to Bansko. The journey will take aroiund two and a half hours, unless you stop off at Blagoevgrad, a beautiful University town where English is widely spoken.

As you enter Bansko you will pass under a banner across the road saying 'Welcome to Bansko'. There's a Supermarket on the left. Bear right opposite the supermarket and continue up this road until it swings around to the left NB This is a dangerous junction, take care. Let the main road swing left, you must go straight on. Carry on up this road, you will observe the river on the left which will be parallel to the road. Go over the traffic lights by the Bunderitsa Hotel and at the top of this road you need to bear left, passing in front of the Bansko Mall. As soon as you pass the Bansko Mall turn right and you will see Bansko Royal Towers on your right.
Easy Directions Sofia Airport to Bansko
- Airport to Sofia Ring Road
From either terminal, follow signs to the town centre (Centrum). This will take you to a dual carriageway with interesting communist-era muliple housing on both sides of the road.
NB In November 2010 this road was being improved and diversions were in place. From the airport, follow Centrum signs which takes you under the flyover and then you'll bear left and the road follows the flyover, which obviosly is on your left. After 4kms you will rejoin the dual carriageway just before the Plovdiv turn off (E80) which you do not take, go straight on, under the bridge.
2.2kms after the Plovdiv underpas (6kms from the airport) you willl see a big shop on your left called HIT and you come to a fork in the road. Take the left fork, leaving a bif office block called NETERRA COMMUNICATIONS on your right.
After 1.8kms bear right and you come to the Ring Road. - Along the Ring Road to the E79 junction
Follow the Ring Road for about 9.8kms, until you see an archicturally exciting large light shop on your left side called SIRIUS, just after this prominent landmark there's an EKO petrol station. Turn left at the traffic lights at the bottom of the road. Signed Kulata E79. Direction PERNIK. - The E79 to Simitli
Follow the E79. After 12kms you'll find a town called Dragichevo, straight after this there's a big, modern junction which takes you up onto a new highway going through to Greece.
This junction is currently under construction and you can either follow the diversion which takes you throu Pernik in a detour of some 35kms. Alternatively, after the junction roadworks, do a 'U' turn and join the E79 which you are allowed to do from this direction.
Follow E79 signs, it will also be siged Kulata which is the fiorst town inside Greece.
Just follow this road through Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad until you arrive at Simitli. - The mountain road to Bansko
Turn left onto #19 signed RAZLOG. (Pass village GRADEVO after 10kms) After 36kms arrive RAZLOG. Continue on the main road and arrive BANSKO after 6kms.
